![]() In Spaceteam lag doesn't really matter because everything is so chaotic and you don't know what the other players are doing. This is generally known as "lag" or "high latency". It's usually only a few milliseconds but if it gets longer then it becomes noticeable and frustrating. In networked multiplayer games like this if the network connection isn't fast or consistent enough then there will be a delay between touching the screen and seeing a result (like your character moving). I might be using this term slightly wrong but it's close enough. I did make some progress on cleaning up some core systems, and I'm halfway through adding a new low-level system to make the game feel snappier called "Client-side Prediction". I'm eager for people to play but it doesn't make sense to push it out before it's ready or the feedback I get won't be as useful.ĭon't worry, you'll hear about it when the beta is ready. In the past I've said "no" to such things, but. If I had a team and a budget then these are the kind of things I would delegate to other people while I keep working on new stuff. One is with a team-building company, and two are ports to specialty game consoles/devices. I've also been approached by no less than three companies who are interested in custom versions of Spaceteam for their platforms. If you like Spaceteam, you'll probably like this one too. It's another local-multiplayer game, so I'm working in my element and it can share technology with Spaceteam and Blabyrinth. But I'm excited about this idea and what it could become, and there's a bit of money in it, so I decided it was a good business decision. I don't normally take on projects for other people, and I feel bad delaying Blabyrinth. I can't give details just yet, so for now I'm going to refer to it as Project M. the work I've been focusing on is actually a short contract project I've accepted, and it's taking most of my time. But my wife's parents have been helping out a lot so I've been able to work more than I expected. My productivity has certainly been affected by the pandemic, especially since we have an almost-3-year-old that now needs extra childcare. Once you do become accustomed to the control setup there's a well-structured, enjoyable strategy game. The Cubemen come in a range of classes that cover the standard bases affordable pea-shooters, rocket launchers, laser weapons and even units that function as walls and mines. It is, as would be expected of a real-time strategy title, a matter of momentum - earn 'cubes' (currency) by destroying enemies and then invest in more units, building your forces. That's not to say that a bad start puts hope beyond reach, but strong performance early on is hugely beneficial in securing victory. There are plenty of options for a match, too. There are two single-player only modes - Defense and Rescue - which are relatively self-explanatory the former tasks you with holding your base, while in the second there are AI civilians trying to walk to your base that require protection. Rescue is particularly interesting in terms of managing terrain, while Defense has two campaigns (of 15 levels each) which serve as the only truly fixed challenges in the entire game they offer serious challenge in later levels, and are useful for learning and then mastering the core mechanics.īeyond these options are five multiplayer modes, though the rules - as is also the case in the single player modes - can be customised in areas such as number of minutes, waves, players, whether you seek online opponents or take on AI bots etc. Skirmish is a simple affair of killing other enemies, while Capture The Flag is a welcome mix of defending your own base and escorting an automated minion after an opponent's flag. ![]() ![]() ![]() Higher pressures help mitigate this, but decrease comfort and grip, reinforcing my opinion that the Fuse 27.5 is better for cruising-speed runs than flat-out schralping. Specialized’s GRID TRAIL carcass, specced at both ends, also tends to flex and squirm when pushed hard. The plus-size tyres mean there’s more steering friction – where the bike feels like it’s riding in glue and tends to hang onto its current trajectory – than with thinner rubber, which does take some getting used to. It certainly isn’t bad on steeper tracks, but I reached its limits more quickly, with the limited stack pitching my weight forward and making it harder to stay in a balanced position between the wheels. In fact, at cruisy speeds on your average red run, the Fuse 27.5 feels particularly calm and composed, proving to be a fun bike to ride. On flatter, trail-centre-style descents, the low front end didn’t slow me down a great deal, especially once I’d increased fork pressure. The tyres provided plenty of grip in dry conditions. In fact, Specialized’s finishing kit feels considerably more premium than the bike’s price tag would suggest. I was impressed by the dropper post, too, which is light to actuate and quick to extend. Add the high-volume tyres at lower pressures, and general comfort is good. The RockShox Judy fork is also nice and supple, ironing out trail chatter even after I increased the air-spring pressure to reduce sag and increase the height of the bike’s front end. Specialized’s Bridge saddle is one of the comfiest perches I’ve used and its Trail grips are another favourite, with a widely-liked diameter and soft feel. When in the big cog, the chain is extremely close to the rear tyre – due to the tyre’s width and the cranks’ chainline – so it quickly gets covered in mud and, on particularly boggy days, can clog up. Nonetheless, it’s possible to scale steep ascents without too much ado, with the 30t chainring and 51t largest sprocket giving a more than adequate lowest gear. This is mostly down to the low front end, which makes your knees feel higher and closer to the bar than on a bike with a taller stack height. Stood-up climbing is a little more cramped, despite the reasonable reach. ![]() This is helped by the generous volume of the tyres, which, when run at lower pressures, provide enormous amounts of comfort and low-speed climbing traction, even over boggy terrain, where the fairly aggressive tread pattern of the Slaughter rear tyre bites into the ground. The seated climbing position is comfy thanks to the fairly generous effective top tube length (637mm), which never left me feeling stretched out or cramped, and ensures that weight shifts fore or aft aren’t met with twitchy changes in grip. ![]() I feel the stack height on the Fuse 27.5 (615mm) could do with being taller, as on the Fuse 29 models (639mm), to help raise the bar.įitting 29in wheels would help, but the fork is 650b-only, so an additional upgrade would be required. While the slightly more aggressive, over-the-front position this encourages is beneficial on steeper inclines, it isn’t ideal when descending (more on this below). The bike has a shorter stack height than the others I had on test, so the front end feels lower. Ian Linton / Immediate Mediaĭespite installing all of the Fuse 27.5’s headset spacers underneath the stem to raise the bar height, I couldn’t get it high enough for my preferences. However, the cable is clamped at the actuator end, which means setting cable tension can be tricky, and if you ever replace the post you may need to buy a new cable-clamping remote. They’re wrapped around Stout rims – Spesh’s in-house brand – with a super-wide 38mm internal width.Ī TranzX dropper post with 120mm of travel helps justify the extra cost over similar bikes like the Vitus Sentier 27. The biggest talking point here is the plus-size tyres – a Specialized Butcher and Slaughter combo, with the brand’s GRID TRAIL casing and GRIPTON compound. ![]() ![]() ![]() Also, Arusoft ships UHD friendly drives that are guaranteed to work with their DeUHD Ultra HD Blu-ray copy software.ĭiscuss this in our Ultra HD Blu-ray Forum.
